Simple practices to quiet the noise in the world around you
and see the quiet intricacies in nature that are right there.

What it is

The workshop, A Closer Look, is an opportunity to start learning, in a small-group setting, to:

  • notice the nature that is all around you, right where you are, as you go about your day

  • experiment with tools and practices such as photography, writing, drawing/tracing, observation and comparison, stillness, etc., to take in greater details in nature

  • grow in appreciation of the intricacies in nature and the connectedness of everything

  • get a taste of the wonder and the calm in nature observation

What it is not

A Closer Look workshop is not a photography, writing or drawing/nature journaling course.  We will learn some simple ways to use these tools to help everyone in observations (regardless of skill levels or experience), but the mechanics/technology of photography, etc., will not be part of this workshop.

The act of going through those practices

can help you in the future as you take time to simply be still and observe.

What you will receive

In addition to learning and experimenting with simple practices to grow in your awareness and observation of nature, each participant will receive:

  • A nature/writing journal

  • Coffee, tea and snacks

  • Complete notes from the day, including a list of resources for further growth

  • Access to a private Facebook group for anyone who has attended A Closer Look workshop to continue to encourage each other in observations of nature in our everyday lives
